Monterey Peninsula Flycasters’ January 2010 NEWSLETTER

Our Lower Sac Fishmasters ... Can anyone guess if they were having fun yet?

President’s Message:
By John Weber

The date of the dinner is January 15 (Friday) at the Bay Park Hotel in the Crazy Horse Restaurant at 6:00 p.m.  We elect our offices and show a  presentation of highlights for the year at this dinner that takes the place of our January meeting.  Please contact Doug. Chandler at 372-8612 to let him know how many you plan to bring and what main course they want from Beef, Fish or Chicken.

Here’s one of the raffle items that you’ll see at the Annual Dinner!!!

Tight lines, John Weber

Vice-President’s Message:
By Ed Kelleher

"The program for the Annual Dinner is a running slide show of slides provided to Michael Matica during the year, and those provided to Tom Pelikan before he makes the disk with the show on it. If you want much of anything besides an "Ed and Tom" show, get some digital pix to Tom Pelikan ASAP.

We are considering a "Basic Fly Fishing Knots" for the February Meeting, being run as a set of three stations, one or two knots taught and practiced at each station. Both instructors and students are needed. If there is absolutely no interest, we won't go to the bother. If you already know enough about fly fishing knots, how about helping some of our newer members learn?? Let Ed Kelleher know, at the Dinner, preferably."

Ed Kelleher
VP and SLDO

Secretary’s Note:
By Michael Matica

At the Board of Director’s meeting held on Dec 1, 2009, we elected a new board member, Alan Bienenfeld, to replace outgoing member, Walt Kitigawa. All other members remain the same.

The Board of Directors meeting starts at 6:30, 30 minutes prior to the general meeting.

Sorry...mixup in my understanding. Stacey Murphy-Marchionni is going to be on the BoD...not Alan.

Newsletter comments:
Unfortunately, many are not able to open the files I attach in the e-mail distributions. Sorry about that. I will try to copy the newsletters directly into the e-mail, but some of the formatting will be lost. It will be best to view the newsletter here on the web site if & when you can. Also, I already have a working version of the next newsletter uploaded...so you can see in advance what is coming..and I update it real time as I get new information...

The web site:
If you have any ideas for other things you would like to see on the club web site, please let me know. I’ll admit that I am by no means a web developer guru. I am using a simple program with my Mac that builds all the code for me, and the program is limited in what is it capable of doing.

What is that ‘sheep skin’ you see on the raffle table at the club meetings?
Answer: It’s a fleece. The fleece is sort of a tradition with our club. Throughout the year, members donate flies to it which are raffled off at the annual dinner in January.

The fly collection is growing, but we still need loads more. I encourage you all to donate some each month, even if it’s only 1 or 2. Just think what a nice collection we would have by the time the annual raffle rolls around!

Do you tie your own flies, consider bringing some to the meeting and donating them. It’s fun to watch the collection of flies increase over the coarse of the year leading up to the annual dinner. Have some extras? Feel really generous? How about doing 2 nice things? Visit Geoff Malloway at Central Coast FlyFishing, buy a fly (or 2, 3, 5… ) and donate them to the fleece.
