Pyramid Lake Fishout, March 2009 On March 26th 2009, Doug Leach, Leonard Laub, Ed Kelleher and Michael Matica descended or ascended depending on how you want to look at it... on Pyramid Lake for 3 days of fishing, among other things... :) with hopes of landing some feisty Lahontan Cutthroat Trout. The fishing was slow, but all caught fish. The evenings were filled with revelry, good food, camaraderie, and recalls of the day in our comfortable accommodations at Crosby Lodge. The highlight was the last fish Doug caught on the 3rd day, only a half hour or so before we called it quits...a good 7~8 pound feisty fish that took him well into his backing. Nymphs suspended below indi-bobbers worked as well as stripping wooly buggers on the bottom trailed by a beetle fly on a sinking line. But nothing stood out as a ‘Hot’ fly. One who shall remain nameless even foul hooked a sucker fish... :) He still owes us all $10 each... :) ($5 for hooking a sucker, another $5 for foul hooking it...grin... ) The day we left the wind kicked up so hard there was no way anyone could fish. We stopped at Cabelas in Reno on the way home. If you haven’t been there, it’s worth the stop on the way home. But, just buy what you can’t get from our local shop(s)!!!
